Project Description:

Eastwood Compound is a team deathmatch multiplayer map created in Far Cry 5's Arcade Editor in the span of 24 hours.

Project Purpose:

This project served as a design test to see what kind of multiplayer level I could create in 24 hours, given that I had not learned the editor before hand. It also served as part of my on going research into level editors on the market that are viable to use in the academic setting for future courses being developed at DigiPen Institute of Technology.

Project Outcome:

I was able to familiarize myself and learn how to use the editor in just a couple hours. The biggest time sinks were getting familiar with the different assets that could be used, the number of objects with physics that could be in a level, and what type of design processes can be used.

After familiarizing myself with the assets, editor, and limitations, I created the concept starting with the setting and context. Next moving on to a rough sketch and then whiteboxing. During whiteboxing, I timed out different spawn points, checked sightlines, placed gameplay elements and ran through the map with another person. After it was in a good place, I replaced all placeholder assets with given assets and painted the terrain.

Overall the editor is really easy to use and understand. This editor can be used to quickly realize a project from start to finish and convey standard FPS control level designs if the game / editor you plan to work in is a bit complicated. If you are looking for a user friendly FPS level editor, this one is your best bet.
