Project Cure

Solo Project
Jan 2018 - April 2018
Engine: Unity

Project Cure is a 3D FPS level design project using Unity3D and Maya that was made over the span of 12 weeks.

Project Description:

You must find medication for their daughter to hold the sickness off, and time is running out. It seems every fast way back home is blocked and you have to find alternative ways to get the medication to your daughter on time.

Project Purpose:

For this project I wanted to highlight and refine my level design skills in a single player narrative experience. I wanted to use methods of level design that I had learned while creating my Fallout 4 Mod to streamline my workflow such as creating kits, reusing set dressing items in multiple areas, and utilizing lighting to evoke feeling.

This project also served as a design exercise in being able to create a prototype to pitch and get approval for, create a vertical slice, and have regular design reviews with other designers.

Project Outcome:

In 12 weeks I was able to create three levels lasting about 2-3 minutes each and that had set dressing, lighting, soundscapes, and in-game event cinematics. I was able to create three levels that were very distinct from one another in terms of scale, setting, and goal. I also was able to put in basic mechanics such as shooting, health, objectives, and AI.

On display are screenshots from all three levels. The first set of screenshots are from level 1 where the player is taught about the story, mechanics, and objectives. You can see difference in the initial whiteboxed level and the 2nd pass with lighting and basic set dressing. Also on display are screenshots of level 2 and 3. Level 2 is a hotel level and level 3 is a subway turned into sewer / utility tunnel.
